Hoopin It Up Tournament is Back for 2018
The Meriden Rotary Club is pleased to announce that it is bringing back its Hoopin It Up basketball tournament. The event will be held on Saturday, October 20th at the Meriden Boys & Girls Club.
With the return of the tournament, Rotary is partnering with the In A Heartbeat Foundation. Mike Papale, founder of In A Heartbeat, has a strong professional background in basketball and he will play an integral role in the tournament's logistics. In A Heartbeat, with a mission of donating AEDs (automated external defibrillators) to organizations that need them, will receive a portion of the proceeds from the tournament. "We're excited to partner with the Meriden Rotary Club for this event," noted Papale. "It will allow us to raise awareness in the community regarding sudden cardiac arrest while offering a fun and entertaining way to raise funds for these two worthy organizations."
Unlike past Hoopin It Up tournaments, this year's event will be played indoors and will be open to teams up to age 16. "It's our goal to make the event as successful as possible," remarked Rotarian Kevin Curry. "Our committee sought to eliminate as many barriers to participation as we could and we are looking forward to being at capacity for teams."
